The inspiration behind this project came form my love of live music. After many experiences of festivals and concerts I wanted to explore the world of the music industry and how an artist may create an album launch. Looking into some of my favourite band I found key components to what would make a successful album launch and additional promotional pieces to help advertise the new work.
AI: Around the time of the start of this project, I started exploring AI art and such thought it would be a unique flair to only use AI generated imagery for the album art. I used the software ‘Midjourney’ and gave it the prompt “man floating in vast ocean, 8k, unreal engine, photorealistic” and I selected the one that I felt had the most potential. Regardless of the absent “man” in the image, the clear water was a great start for my design.
Textures:Altering the colour and textures, I created an album cover that represented a fictional land with pink waters and a dreamy sky. The idea was to fabricate a whole new world relating to the album’s themes and inspirations that would be represented by the design of the album and its promotion – but also within the lyrics.
Additional Material: After designing the front and back of the album itself, I considered what the artist would need for touring material, and such designed a tour poster and Instagram posts those venues could post accordingly. The touring themes had an island amongst the imagery to signify supporting bands within the lore of this new world.
The outcome for this personal project is a start for my feel of the music industry. Exploring image manipulation for the product itself and to be used as promotional material, it allowed me to have an extensive range of ideas and experimental play with themes and storytelling throughout the lifecycle of the album launch.
